The Rifugio Guido Rey (1761 metres above sea level) was built in 1938 as a military building. In the 1950s it passed to the CAI UGET of Turin, which began using it as a refuge. It is named after Guido Rey, mountaineer, writer and photographer, nicknamed the 'Poet of the Mountain' by many.Situated in the municipality of Oulx, it can be reached on foot in 45 minutes from the Chateau Beaulard hamlet or in about 1 h 30 min from the village of Beaulard. Nestling in the woods and protected by the imposing Grand'Hoche massif, it is an ideal destination for hikers of all ages. In winter, it is a popular destination for snowshoers and ski mountaineers, and several routes of varying difficulty are available.The ambience is rustic, homely and makes guests feel at ease. The facility has 24 beds in comfortable rooms for 2 or 3 people, and services are shared on the floor.

BYCAR: coming from the Turin-Bardonecchia motorway, take the Oulx ovest exit and follow for Bardonecchia. After the hamlet of Savoulx take a narrow subway on the left (signposted Beaulard and Chateau), pass the campsite and continue towards the hamlet of Chateau Beaulard. Before the village, turn right and park in the clearing after the hairpin bend. Path No. 702a begins a little further on the right (signposted Rey refuge - Bear Pass - Blanchetti bivouac): after crossing the meadows above the hamlet, plunge into the beautiful coniferous forest, passing in front of the San Domenica and Sant'Anna chapels. When you reach the gorge of the Peyron stream, cross it on a wooden footbridge; continue on the other side to intersect the dirt road after a short flat stretch. Continue along the path until finally joining the road, which turns right and shortly leads to the 1761 metre refuge (only visible at the last).

BY TRAIN: from Beaulard station (direct connection from Turin Porta Nuova in about 1 h 15 min) cross the Dora river and continue along the tarmac road that leads towards the village; at the Grand Hoche apartment building keep to the right until you reach a small car park with a fountain a little further on. On the left, take a dirt road (signposted Rifugio Rey) which you follow for the entire route; after about 250 metres of difference in height, you can leave the dirt road and, following the new Free Vertical R. signposts, continue along a steep road. Guido Rey, continue along a steep and wide path through the woods that will take you to grange Pleynet (some huts now abandoned) and after a steep climb you will arrive a few metres above the hut; alternatively, at the fork before grange Pleynet, keep to the dirt road that with a less direct route takes you to the hut 1761 metres. There is also the possibility of reaching the Chateau Beaulard path: from the station, cross the stream and take the road immediately to the left until the campsite; from here, go up in the direction of Chateau and a few metres before the wooden bridge, take the dirt road that leads to Chateau, from there join path 702a until the hut.
